1. Where are you from?

My family and I are originally from New Jersey. I grew up in a small town right outside Princeton and we relocated to Winston Salem when I was a sophomore in High School. Although I don’t sound like I’m from NJ anymore, it doesn’t take long for people to know it once they start asking me what sport teams I like! (Go Giants!)

2. Where did you go to college?

I started my undergraduate career at Appalachian State University. By my sophomore year I had decided on Exercise Science as my major and explored the benefits of transferring. I couldn’t be happier with my choice to move to Chapel Hill and finish my degree at UNC.

3. What brought you to Chapel Hill?

UNC! Since coming to school here I have loved the town as well as the surrounding area enough to stick around after graduating!

4. What sports did you play growing up?

I played various sports growing up, having two brothers will do that to you. Dance was always my passion though. My parents put me in a ballet class when I was 4 years old and I couldn’t get enough of it. Well, I say ballet but we spray painted our shoes silver and danced to Grand Funk’s “Locomotion” for our first recital, so “ballet” was a loose term there. I loved learning new techniques and movements through dance and was amazed at what I could make my body do through training and repetition. Dance is really what laid the foundation for my desire to become a personal trainer.

5. What made you want to become a personal trainer?

Helping people achieve their goals is something I constantly strive to do because it makes me happy! Since I was always a dancer, I was always active growing up. When I decided to not pursue a career in dance, I knew I wanted to stay active, but I wasn’t sure how. Getting into a regular exercise routine has helped me in numerous ways other than just my physical state and health. I know it has had a positive effect on my idea of body image as well as mental strength. There are a lot of things we cannot control in our lives, but we can control how much effort we put into improving ourselves. I’m here to show you that personal training can be a catalyst to becoming the strongest and best version of yourself!

6. What is your favorite part about your job and your favorite part of Chapel Hill Training?

My favorite part about being a personal trainer is seeing clients who once hated exercise and despised working out, actually enjoy and look forward to sessions. Having a client tell me, “Oh this is my favorite exercise!” or smile because they just did something they physically were not able to do a few weeks ago is a wonderful feeling. Chapel Hill Training provides an ideal environment for personable training and attainable goal-setting, and that’s why I love working there!

7. What is your favorite exercise to do?

A year ago I would’ve laughed if I said this: pull-ups. Definitely pull-ups and chin-ups. Do you know how incredibly gratifying it is to be able to pull up your own body weight? It makes me feel strong and accomplished because it is something I have struggled with and worked hard to get better at. I still have a long way to go if I want them to be perfect but I’m working on it!

8. What is your favorite book or movie?

Oh man, too many to name. “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch is an easy stand out. It’s about the author’

s last lecture as a professor at Carnegie Mellon University after learning of his terminal diagnosis (it gets better, I promise). He speaks about living, more than death, and all the important things he feels his young daughters should know. I like stories about the lives of others that make you think more deeply about your own life and all the things to appreciate about it.

9. What is your favorite music to workout to?

This is going to vary on any given day. Usually it’s something upbeat, loud, and intense, other times it’s soothing, calm, and country, just depends on my mood and mindset at the time. I love listening to music that is new to me while working out also!

10. If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

There’s honestly not many places I can think of that I would NOT want to visit! If I had to pick one place right now it would be Iceland. Seeing the northern lights is definitely on my bucket list. There are so many unique and beautiful landscapes in that area of the globe.

11. What is your favorite class to teach and why?

I really enjoy teaching the Tabata class. Each section goes by so quickly you don’t have time to realize how exhausted you’re getting. It’s a great workout that anyone can do. It’s also exciting because it can be different every time! Yeah, you read correctly-I said exciting!!
